Yes this is a flare , when this happens to me i take some pain killers , put packs of ice on my hands ( they say to put a cloth on your skin first then the ice ) and put your resting splints on , dont know if you have done this already but if not try it , hope this helps

Sophie x

Hi hope that you are feeling a little better now. I used to have this a lot, fortuantly I only get itthis symptom now in a much
milder form. I also found when it was bad like this to take anti inflamatorys as well as the pain killers and do not do anything!!
I found that sometimes it took 3-4 days before it was ok ie being able to hold cutlery properly. Hope you recover quickly

Hi there!

I agree with the others ... definitely a flare-up ... anti-inflammatories and painkillers and rest the hands.

There's never a dull moment with RA ... just when you think you may have even just a basic handle on how things work, it all changes! Can be very scary at times and can get you down.

Hope you get some relief soon!

I agree with everyone else. Take painkillers, rest and icepacks. Wrap ice pack in cloth and leave on for 15 minutes three times a day.

Take care

Sorry to hear this but definitely sounds like a flare. I agree with what Mel says and if aren't on any anti-inflammatories, I think it would be a good idea to ask if it's possible to take some (sorry don't know what other meds you are on). They defininely help when hands and wrists are like this. I had to try a couple before I found ones I could tolerate but definitely helped me out when I was in this situation. Hope you manage to get some relief.

Poor you! Hands are so essential!

Try some pain relief and the ice..Some very cold Devils Claw gel, or other anti inflammatory gel, may help temporarily.

Love,

Amanda

Sorry to hear that you are having a horrible time!

I have had this too it is very frightening when it first happens - I agree with everyone else, painkillers, anti inflammatories and cold flannels !

I have spent many a night and day sat with my hands covered in wet flannels and praying for relief!

Not sure what medication you are on but may be worth seeing your Consultant for some prednisolone to see you through this flare!

And most importantly rest !!

Take Care

Hi,I have recently had a flare in the hands and shoulders and have been taking anti inflamatories for it.The hands have been stiff and painful for a few weeks now,and like you,it has been a job to hold anything in the hands.Sad I didn't have much swelling this time thankgoodness. My GP gave me a steroid injection for the shoulder but that hasn't worked.Last year I had a very bad flare in the hands, wrists and feet and was put on a short course of steroids which worked wonders, all the pain and stiffness went almost overnight.Perhaps you could ask your GP to perscribe you a course of steroids to see you through this flare. As the injection hasn't worked for me I am going to ask him if I can go back on a low dose of steroids as they worked so well last time.Do hope your GP will be sympathetic and will be able to help you.Take care. Brenda.
